Is US Zone referring to the division of Germany amongst the Allied powers in the immediate aftermath of World War II?

Yes, the various zones lasted until about 1955 so the coffee cup dates to something like 1945 to 1955.

We can tell that it was made in Germany some time between 1945 and 1949. Specifically it was made in the U.S. occupied area which included Bavaria and Hesse and the northern part of what became Baden-Wurttemburg all in southern Germany. It could have also been produced in either of the port cities of Bremen or Bremerhaven in northern Germany as these ports were U.S. Zone enclaves in the British Zone.

That is really cool, haven't seen anything other than a few antique toys with postwar occupation zone marks in some time. This would have to date from 1945-1949, as after that point, the only part of Germany that was really still occupied was West Berlin.

The cup is one of a pair that my brother bought a few years ago. I was under instructions not to drop it...

Maybe or maybe not. This is all I found on Google although I don't know if they actually sold for the kr50 (about €5). Auction
